This newly formed consortium will continue VSBN's outstanding history of quality training and certification of residential and commercial building design, construction, and facility operations' professionals. In 2010, in line with the national emphasis on Green Job training, VSBN is offering Building Performance Institute (BPI) training and certification for residential energy auditors and contractors, as well as consumer workshops, and other training for the residential and commercial building industry. VSBN is also identifying a range of partners that will bring additional Green Building training opportunities into Virginia.
The BPI Certification is a valuable business investment. Virginia announced in November 2009, their Energy Efficiency Rebate, which also includes energy audits performed by BPI certified auditors or HERS Raters. ASTRACOR: Green Jobs Training
ASTRA-Green training is part of ASTRACOR's Green Jobs Initiative in collaboration with Alexandria's JobLink. Training includes:

Instruction in basic and applied building science

Home energy auditing

Remediation
•
Culminates with both the BPI field and online exam
•
Leading to BPI certification in the field of home energy auditing, retrofitting, and remediation.

ASTRACOR is a Northern Virginia non-profit organization certified to train anyone who is interested in becoming part of the emerging "Green" careers. Its qualifications are recognized by many reputable companies such as the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship Training (BAT), Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (VADPOR), National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and Northern Virginia Building Industry Association (NVBIA as apprenticeable trades. This organization can impart skills necessary for "Green" fields, such as auditing as well as remediation and retrofitting preparation.
