Kevin Anderson
Kevin
Anderson has worked for Hyatt Hotels and Resorts since 1977, taking on his first Director of Engineering position in 1980 at
Hyatt on Hilton Head Island, in South Carolina. Anderson came to Hyatt Regency Washington as Director of Engineering in
1989. His responsibilities include overseeing the maintenance and equipment operations throughout the entire hotel and
taking charge of the conservation and recycling efforts for Hyatt Regency Washington.
In 1990, Anderson began a large-scale water conservation program for the hotel. This program included modifying the guestrooms with
new low-consumption toilets and low flow showerheads, which reduced water consumption by 57%. He then directed his attention to major
energy conservation efforts in 1994, updating the hotel with energy efficient lighting, chillers, variable frequency drives, and motion
detectors, saving 2.5 million kilowatt-hours on an annual basis. A major effort toward recycling and waste reduction began in 1995
reducing waste trash sent to landfills by 900 tons per year.
Kevin Anderson was awarded with the Pepco "Encomp" (Energy Competition) Honorable Mention Award in 1995 for these efforts. In
addition, Hyatt Regency Washington became certified as a Green Seal hotel as part of the D.C. Green Hotels Program in August 2002.
