Suzanne Burnes
Suzanne Burnes
is a Pollution Prevention Specialist for the Georgia Pollution Prevention Assistance Division (P2AD). She manages the Georgia Green
Hotel Program. The current focus of this program is to identify, certify and recognize lodging properties that meet Green Seal's
Environmental Standard for Lodging Properties, GS-33; and to provide technical assistance to lodging properties interested in working
towards meeting the standard. In recent years, she has provided individual "greening" assistance to hotels around Georgia, including
the Swiss?tel, JW Marriott, Hilton Savannah DeSoto, Brasstown Valley Resort, Jekyll Island Club Hotel, and Unicoi State Park Lodge.
In addition to her work with the hospitality industry, Ms. Burnes works with other commercial businesses and military bases on solid
waste recycling issues; and prepares the Division's publications. She joined the P2AD staff in 1999 after working for seven years as a
consultant to the U.S. EPA and U.S. Army on hazardous and solid waste management issues. She has lived in Atlanta for 14 years, and as
an active member of the East Atlanta community, she has served on the Board of Directors for SouthStar Community Development Corporation
since 1997. Ms. Burnes holds a bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies from Warren Wilson College, with an emphasis on Environmental
Policy.
