Earth

"The earth belongs
to the living. No
man may by
natural right oblige
the lands he owns
or occupies to debts
greater than those
that may be paid
during his own
lifetime. Because if
he could, then the
world would belong
to the dead
and
not
to the living.
"

Thomas Jefferson

------------------

"It shall be the
Commonwealth's policy to protect
its atmoshpere,
lands, and waters
from pollution, impairment, or destruction, for the benefit, enjoyment,
and general welfare
of the people of the Commonwealth."

Virginia Constitution
Article XI, Section 1

------------------

"Virginia is dedicated to protecting our natural resources
and improving the quality of our environment. For
the benefit of all Virginians, our
efforts will continue
to focus on enhancing the environment through stewardship, education, innovation and technology - to sustain and improve the good health of
our air, our water
and our land.
Virginia, through
the goodwill and
effort of her citizens and businesses, will remain a unique treasure for generations to come."

Secretary of Natural Resources John Paul Woodley, Jr.
